Style Spotlight | King's Pattern Cutlery

Based on the honeysuckle flower and shell, King's cutlery is perhaps the most famous pattern of silver flatware in the world and has been popular for over two centuries. It was first introduced during the reign of King George III, hence the name, and was initially made in sterling silver, making it very expensive and only available to wealthy aristocracy.

The design was inspired by ancient Greek and Roman art, it quickly became popular and was soon replicated in less expensive materials, such as silver plate. In the early 1800s, the design was modified to include more floral elements and was known as 'New King's Pattern', a staple of Victorian dining.

During the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 30s, King's Pattern saw a resurgence in popularity. Silver plate was widely used during this time, and the ornate design of King's Pattern fit perfectly with the opulent style of the era.

Today, King's Pattern cutlery is still sought after for its timeless beauty and classic appeal. It has become a symbol of elegance and refinement and remains a popular choice for special occasions and fine dining experiences.
