Antique and vintage goods are both stylish and sustainable.

They have a low carbon footprint thanks to their existing lifespan and they help reduce deforestation because no trees are being cut to produce them.

They help reduce landfill because, unlike mass-produced non-recyclables, they are high quality in material and craft, and are destined to outlive most other possessions.

Everything we buy interacts with the environment. Second hand furniture and accessories are not only unique, characterful and nostalgic, but also contribute to a sustainable home.

Style Spotlight | Space Age

Space Age design was created in the late 1950s alongside Sputnik's venture into outer space. Throughout the space race new technologies and revolutionary materials were discovered which transformed design across the planet. With the excitement around these historical events pop culture focused on the future and the possibilities of tomorrow.

Space age furniture and homeware incorporates organic forms, fluid shapes and sleek designs made in shiny dynamic colours and materials such as moulded plastics, stretch fabric and steel. Key designers of the style include Verner Panton, Joe Colombo and Eero Aarnio. Another significant monument of Space Age style is Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey with his renowned attention to detail the film became iconic for its vision of the future. Kubrick commissioned corporations and furniture makers to create concepts for products of the future, making the film a showcase for innovation and progressive contemporary design, subsequently pushing forward the boundaries of design in the wider world.
