Sustainability
Antique and vintage goods are both stylish and sustainable.

They have a low carbon footprint thanks to their existing lifespan and they help reduce deforestation because no trees are being cut to produce them.

They help reduce landfill because, unlike mass-produced non-recyclables, they are high quality in material and craft, and are destined to outlive most other possessions.

Everything we buy interacts with the environment. Second hand furniture and accessories are not only unique, characterful and nostalgic, but also contribute to a sustainable home.

Thank you for submitting your enquiry. A member of our sales team will get back to you as soon as possible

What is Veneer?

Veneer is a thin layer of wood with a fine, decorative finish that is bonded to the surface of a lesser expensive wood.
It is a common misconception that furniture made from solid timber is better quality when in fact carpenters and cabinet makers have for centuries produced the most exquisite pieces using leaves of veneer.
There is evidence that the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used veneers but the practice did not reach Britain until the 17th century, when walnut veneered furniture was imported from Europe. In the 18th century, famous British furniture makers such as Chippendale, Sheraton and Hepplewhite veneered in mahogany and satinwood. Arguably the world's most spectacular furniture was produced in France by the Ebenists during the reign of King Louis, achieving spectacular results with rosewood and fruit woods.

When veneers are sliced they are mounted in sequence using matched pairs, fours, eights or even sixteens. The effect can be further enhanced with contrasting borders, banding and motifs. Other veneers are applied in geometric patterns, known as marquetry.
