Antique and vintage goods are both stylish and sustainable.

They have a low carbon footprint thanks to their existing lifespan and they help reduce deforestation because no trees are being cut to produce them.

They help reduce landfill because, unlike mass-produced non-recyclables, they are high quality in material and craft, and are destined to outlive most other possessions.

Everything we buy interacts with the environment. Second hand furniture and accessories are not only unique, characterful and nostalgic, but also contribute to a sustainable home.

Design Spotlight | The Chesterfield

So named after the 19th Earl of Chesterfield, the Chesterfield sofa is typical of the Victorian emphasis on comfort. This was especially so in its earlier forms when the framework disappeared under a fat layer of well-sprung upholstery. Rosamond Mariott Watson in The Art of the House, 1897, described it as 'about as comely as a gigantic pincushion'. The models were smaller and more elegant after the turn of the century, making the Chesterfield one of the most popular and enduring sofas of all time, whether in leather, linen or velvet. Key features of the Chesterfield are scrolled arms, deep-buttoned upholstery, and short turned legs with castors.
