There are many ways in which people begin their New Year. Some take a relaxing break before heading back into work whilst others come up with a strict gym and dietary regime (which is likely to have been ditched by the end of January). You may find yourself choosing to learn new languages, instruments or party tricks. Alternatively, you may choose to traverse the sub continent of India in a tuk tuk.
Ross, one of the members of our lovely sales team here at The Old Cinema, will be doing just this for the first two weeks of January. Accompanied by 5 companions, he will be taking part in this annual pseudo-pilgrimage from Kochi, Kerala to Jaisalmer, Rajasthan – a total distance of approximately 2800km. If you need some perspective it is the equivalent of driving from London to Moscow in a vehicle which limps to an impressive top speed of 34mph… downhill. There is no set route, no back up vehicle and no guarantee that you’ll make it to the finish line in one piece.
To familiarise yourself with this glorious machine, have a look at this quick clip from one of the teams who completed the run in 2013.
Well over the past few months Ross and the team have been working hard fundraising for 5 very deserving charities which they are sponsoring on their adventure. They have also made sure the costs incurred in taking on India in a glorified lawnmower are completely self-funded meaning every donation they receive goes direct to their chosen charities. To date they have raised a whopping £8296.75 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Shivia, FISCH, Cool Earth and The Rowan Varey Memorial Fund. If you would like to contribute to this fantastic cause, please follow THIS donations link.
Throughout January, please join us as we follow Ross and the team whilst they do battle with all India can throw at them on some of the most dangerous roads in the world in their little tin can. You can find more information on Ross’ adventure, as well as information on how to donate, at the Eat. Sleep. Rickshaw Repeat website found here.
Keep an eye out for updates on Ross' progress! Good Luck!
